Office Of Career Services Coordinator Participates In Capacity Building Programme For Mentors And Coaches

The Coordinator of the Office of Career Services, Madam Ruth Walya Munene, participated in a Capacity Building Programme for Mentors and Coaches conducted under the Public Service Internship Programme at Burch Resort, Naivasha, from 25th to 29th May 2026.

The programme brought together officers from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State Corporations, and Public Universities to strengthen the capacity of mentors and coaches supporting interns deployed to public institutions. Discussions emphasized the importance of institutionalizing mentorship as a core organizational practice that supports professional growth, leadership development, and workplace readiness.

Participants engaged in sessions on leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, ethics and values, personal branding, performance management, safeguarding, and professional conduct. The training also highlighted the role of continuous learning in preparing young professionals for successful careers.

A key takeaway from the programme was the critical role universities play in shaping not only academic competence but also professional values, leadership capacity, and workplace behaviour. Mentorship was highlighted as an important mechanism for talent development, knowledge transfer, and succession planning within institutions.

The knowledge and insights gained from the programme will support the Office of Career Services in enhancing intern development through structured mentorship arrangements, mentor capacity building, and strengthened feedback and performance monitoring systems.
